Construction Equipment Shipping

Shipping construction equipment overseas requires expertise in handling oversized, high and heavy equipment. Whether you are shipping cranes, excavators, concrete mixers, earth movers, motor graders or generators, each type of equipment requires a customized shipping solution.

CONSTRUCTION body of page 2We are experts at moving construction equipment around the world. We offer heavy hauling from all inland points anywhere in the world to any port of loading using step deck trailers, double drop deck trailers, gooseneck trailers, extendable step deck trailers and flatbeds. We transport used equipment from industrial auctioneers such as Iron Planet, Machinery Trader, Ritchie Brothers, etc. We can also pickup directly from dealers anywhere in the world and from manufacturers such as Caterpillar, John Deere, Ingersoll Rand, Komatsu, Volvo, Terex, Hitachi, etc. We arrange for all road permits and escorts where required. Once the equipment reaches the port we arrange for unloading the trailers and ocean shipment on board a variety of vessel types.

The most common vessels used for shipping self propelled and towable construction equipment and vehicles are RO/RO (roll on/roll off) vessels. Equipment is driven or towed on and off the vessel and secured to the deck using special strapping and bracing hardware.

Some equipment is not suitable for RO/RO shipment. For static equipment and for destinations with no RO/RO service, there are alternate options such as flat racks, break bulk vessels, or dismantling equipment for loading in containers.

Oversized shipments that are not suitable for RO/RO vessels are moved either on break bulk vessels or on flat rack containers which are used for out-of-gage (OOG) equipment that exceeds the width or height of a standard container. We provide the loading and lashing services as well as coordinating inspection by NCB (National Cargo Bureau). NCB are responsible for certifying the securing of cargo on and under deck, including special surveys of heavy or large items and securing of cargo on flat racks on behalf of the US Coast Guard.

The most cost effective method of shipment is often achieved by dismantling the equipment and removing attachments for loading in standard containers. We can arrange for dismantling and loading in containers as well as reassembly at destination by qualified logistics providers. Although there is an extra cost to remove parts and then reassemble at destination, these costs are usually offset by greater savings in freight costs. In some cases there may also be savings in duty rates by shipping parts rather than fully assembled equipment.

Some countries have special cleaning and inspection requirements for import of used construction equipment such as Australia, New Zealand and certain European destinations. Our experts will guide you through the compliance process for AQIS (Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service) as well as similar processes for other countries.

For urgent parts and attachments we also offer a full range of air freight services.
